Moving This Blog

I have decided to go back to one blog and not have a separate crafty blog. So yeah... that's my news. I will keep my blogger account because I go to my dashboard daily, sometimes several times a day, to see the recently updated blogs I follow. Plus a lot of bloggers require an account to comment so there's no sense deleting mine. :)

Anyone who follows this blog can easily follow my wordpress blog. If you don't know how, go to your dashboard, click ADD under your reading list, then insert my URL:
http://beforethedawn.org/wpblog/
Then follow the directions and you're done!

New: Among the Gum Trees -- And an update

Do yourself a favor and head on over to Among The Gum Trees. They will be giving away free patterns starting in October! Can't wait to see what they come up with for us!

-----------

In other news: I am READY for Autumn!! The signs are showing and I am excited! Our daughter turned 5 this past Saturday and our son will be turning 9 on the 22nd! Been busy getting ready for their bday parties. Our son's won't be until the 26th. I been walking almost everyday to get my daughter from kindergarten. The exercise feels good and I hope it helps to lose some weight. I can't wait to get out my fall decorations and to shop for new ones. I love pumpkins and hope to get more fake ones so poor hubby doesn't have to deal with me wanting 20 real pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. ;) Okay, so I've never actually bought 20 yet in all the years we've been going, more like 10. :x I've been reading and commenting when I feel like it, just not blogging.

Moved in

I posted on my personal blog about our move. :) We're so happy to be out of the apartment!

I have a week's worth of blogs to read. I need some inspiration to unpack my craft stuff so off I go. ;)

I'll try and post pics in the next post. I put up my barn star so I want to show that off. :P

Moving & VBS

We are moving soon! We've signed a rental agreement for a house over by the lake and my church.

There was a house in Bailey we REALLY wanted, I loved that the porch went around three sides of the house. We didn't get that house though. The new owners decided to rent to some friends of theirs so that was a bummer. But this house by my church is bigger, closer to the people we care about, and even has three bathrooms! No more fighting over our single bathroom anymore LOL. (not the same house I posted about previously)

I'm not sure of the move in date. On or before August 1. The house is old and hasn't had decent tenants so the owner is having to fix it up before we can move in. The upstairs has 2 bathrooms and three bedrooms. Downstairs is another bathroom, another fireplace, a huge room, and even a sauna (which I don't plan to ever use.) There are no trees on the property and the owner said we can plant some if we want. There used to be trees but previous tenants got rid of them. Not sure what that's about, but I love to garden so I don't mind planting trees!

I don't have any photos of it yet. It's amazing we even found the place. We'd gone to an appointment in Bailey at another house, but it was too far of a drive. My friend said she saw a little house by the lake for rent, but thought it would be way too small for us. We went and looked anyways. It was way too small. We drove around over by the lake and I noticed another house for rent but there was no phone number on the sign. Gary saw people there and asked about it and the rest is history! It's amazing how God works. And a blessing that we'll get to stay close. Homes for rent here are expensive which is why we figured we'd try to move to Bailey... it's cheaper but not too far from here.

This week is VBS and I have been helping with the craft table all this week. I am sick and my voice is shot. It seems to get worse each day.

In crafting news, I am working on a stitchery. Everything else is being packed away for the move. :)

Anyway

It's been eventful around here...

- Our 8 year old son got bit by his friend's dog. It came after him barking and bit his leg. Our son was not at fault in any way and thankfully the owner and her parents are good people and took care of everything (ER bill, meds, new jeans, and even ice cream.)

- Our son's bike was stolen from the front of our home, while we were home! We're tucked back away from the highways and in the trees so this was surprising and sad.

- My husband's father passed away. His health has been worse the past few years so at least he is not suffering anymore.

- We are moving! Hopefully by the end of July we will be out of here. I can't wait to have privacy again. I am so sick of the drama around here with our neighbors. It keeps getting worse and we've had enough. We live in a top/bottom duplex so basically we are in a basement. We've been blessed with an empty apartment above us since last year, but it's only a matter of time until it's rented. It was very noisy when people lived up there and I used to get headaches from it.

- We checked out a house today and I really hope we can rent it. It's old, very plain Jane, and has outdated wood paneling on the walls (which I hate, but I figure I can just put up with that), it's a small house but a little bigger than what we're in now, it's totally outdated inside and out... the pluses are: it has a lots of outdoor space, the neighbors aren't too close, it's on a hill with views of the mountains and creek. There are big rocks covered in green moss and smaller rocks covered in orange, oh I love that! It's less than ten minutes away from this address so we're still close to church, the library and the grocery store.

Anyway, that's what's been going on around our neck of the woods lately.

Crafting Mojo

I've lost my crafting mojo. I still visit crafty blogs every day and save plenty to delicious, but it hasn't helped. I actually worked on two things today, but they are super simple. One is a glass candle holder that I mod podged with tissue paper and the other is an orange juice carton I am turning into a box for one of the kids to put their junk in. I am mod podging the box with fabric. Maya*made posted about the boxes here. I have been saving our OJ cartons to make more.

Anyway, last night and today I have been visiting prim lover blogs and it's starting to help me get back into the "spirit" of wanting to craft and decorate. I love primitive stuff (and country stuff!) and I love to see people post pics of their pretties. ;D

My first quilt.

I started my first quilt! It's for my 4 year old daughter. I cut out the squares last Friday and G helped me arrange them. I started sewing the blocks together today and have only two rows so far. My son had the day off from school (except for his one hour of testing time that I had to take him to at his school) so I haven't gotten a lot done. The kids constantly fight and I can't leave them alone to play for long lengths of time.

I'll take some pics when I get a little more of the rows done. The fabric is from a pack of five at Joann's. It has princesses, orange and pink which is what my daughter loves. :) I don't have side panels yet or a backing piece. I'm just going to go along and decide what I need when the step comes. Plus I am still learning what all goes into a blanket and how to put it together. I think I will do the knot thing like Terry did on her last quilt.

Earth Day and Giveaway Winner

Earth Day is tomorrow. I was just reading this blog post about recycling and of course I had to throw out my own thoughts!

I used to live in California where they gave us a trash can bigger than our actual trash can to put recycling in. It was so easy to recycle because of how they do it out there. We moved to Colorado and it's not the same and I really wish our waste services would get on the ball with recycling. They do offer recycling for more fees, but they don't take much. Where we are now a separate company does the recycle pick up and it's expensive! :( So I choose not to do it that way.

We save everything that can be recycled and drive it to the grocery store where they offer a recycling center. They take everything except styrofoam, it's awesome to have one place that takes it all!

We live in a small duplex apartment where space is so very limited. Our car is small and we don't have anything outside to store recycling (we are in a rural community with bears, deer, elk, raccoons, etc). By the weekend we are swimming in recycling (the recycle center is only open Sat, Sun and Mon). BUT we still do it because I cannot bear the thought of throwing away anything that I know can be recycled.

We throw away so little now that we could easily only have to put our trash can out for pickup once every three weeks. But we still do it weekly (or every other week) because of the wildlife. It feels GOOD to have so little trash going to the landfill.

Recycling is so easy to do, if you don't already do it, please consider starting!

Now for the giveaway! Thank you to the ladies who entered the drawing! I put the names into a bowl and my daughter picked the name.... the winner is Cindy! I will be emailing you.

I love to give stuff and can't wait to do another giveaway. :D

Giveaway!

Photobucket
Click photo to enlarge.

I am giving away a tissue holder that I made and a 6 pack of Little Delights melts. The scent is Peace. My bestest online friend Randa of 29 eleven has been making candles for many years now and I can truthfully say her products are some of the best I've had the pleasure of using in my home.

Just comment on this post to be entered! A winner will be chosen next Tuesday, April 21.

(Someday I will learn how to better use my camera, dim pics aren't the best. LOL)

Cross Stitch

My neighbor's birthday was March 28, 4 days after mine. She brought over a sweet gift so I decided to make one for her as well. It just took way longer than I thought to finish. I was really perplexed making this because I had no idea how to make a little pillow out of the cross stitch and how to attach a ribbon. After many attempts and lots of pondering I finished it yesterday. I'm not thrilled with the bottom as I had to hand stitch it and it looks off compared to the other sides. I guess for my first try this is as good as it was going to get. I hope my neighbor likes it! The pattern came from cosmichandmade.com. I have loved her graphics for many years and was thrilled when she started making cross stitch patterns. :)

This is a cross stitch I made many years ago. I'm not even sure when, but I think it was before Justin was born, he is 8.
